Things change because of conflict.  Whether it is a war, a social conflict, or conflict between people and our needs, all conflicts provoke changes.  The social aspects of the 1920's were a mixture of new permissive events that collided  with old Victorian standards and social mores of the past.   This same statement is just as true with the social conflicts of today, such as abortion and cloning, as it was in the 1920's.
